One of our Shop Stewards Jackie Carter is very active with the Veterans EBRG and happened to mention several other items she collects for various charities. Please see the list below charity and volunteering is good for the heart. If you have any questions contact Jackie in UG. This is supported by the union and no one is forced to participate.
Cancelled Postage Stamps -Stamps for the Wounded helping Wounded Veterans in VA Hospitals. A couple of notes: please to leave at least a quarter-inch margin or paper around stamps you tear off envelopes or packages. Please DON'T try to peel or steam stamps off! Don't soak stamps or sort them into packets. This work is much of the fun for the hospitalized collector! http://www.angelfire.com/va2/ayrhill/SFTW.htm
Cell Phones for Soldiers – collecting old and/or broken cell phones to benefit deployed military personnel. Mobile devices and tablets donated to Cell Phones For Soldiers are sold either to an electronic refurbisher or a recycler. Proceeds are used to send prepaid international calling cards to our troops to use via their approved phones. https://www.cellphonesforsoldiers.com/
Individual condiment packets – for deployed troops like ketchup, mustard, relish, soy sauce, duck sauce, salad dressings, etc. Although MRE’s have come a long way, when troops are out on missions, it helps to have something “extra” to help flavor their food.
General items collected for troops on a regular basis:
Non-aerosol shaving cream (can’t mail aerosol cans overseas)
Stick deodorant (no aerosol or gel)...primarily men’s deodorant
2in1 / 3in1 body wash...prefer clear bottles so they can easily tell how much is left
Feminine hygiene supplies
Disinfectant wipes...prefer bagged ~15/pk or smaller canisters ~35/canister...not Costco sized
Antibacterial wipes...prefer individual or small bag size ~20/pk
